JS_portraiture_webHaving over four decades to work with various kinds of photographic equipment, from point-and-shoot to 8×10 view cameras, darkroom to digital development and printers, while deeply immersing myself in the technical aspects of imagery, I stumbled far enough down the rabbit hole to lose my grip on wrenching technique and embrace a minimalist approach.

My Looking Glass:  The advent of the phone with a camera has now morphed to camera with a phone.  The functionality of this new capture device releases me from operational responsibility into a space of tranquil observation fostering unbridled creativity and enjoyment of instant gratification.  Being unintimidated by computers nor shy of photo editing software my post production ranges from undetectable to bold.

For me as an artist the act of observation unconsciously brings me fully into the present moment; calmly searching for beauty in my surroundings.  To share my vision and art, along with the emotions I experienced that instant the shutter snapped, is a great joy.  Knowing the images I create are also lifting spirits and inspiring happiness in others is the pinnacle of my life’s work.

My mission is to assist all interested persons in the art of having fun taking pictures, finding their comfort zone with a camera in hand and the enjoyment of the memories they capture.

This is America, we have the right to bear cameras!
